Hello Everyone,
We hope you are surviving the wintry weather! We would like to use this little break from our routine to bring something to your attention. There are a lot of future endeavors Moore County Schools and our children stand to gain or lose from the upcoming tax referendum vote in March. We would like to inform you of a Public Information Forum on Tuesday, February 2nd at 6:30 pm in the Owens Auditorium at Sandhills Community College. On the agenda are plans for the new Advanced Career Center and construction of three new elementary schools, explanation of the proposed tax increase, discussions regarding how we can help, and you can even register to vote while you are there. It is very important for Moore County Schools that everyone votes for the 1/4 cent sales tax referendum coming up in March. Please visit http://investinmoorekids.org/ to find out the facts about this tax. This website might be able to answer all of your questions. If it doesn't, or you would like to learn more, please attend the forum. Sports Concessions for the Winter and SpringThe PTA is splitting the concession stand duties with the Athletic Boosters this year as a fundraiser.
1. We are looking for a couple of parents to be trained on how to run concessions to help train other volunteers on December 10 between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m. 2. We will be looking for parents to help run the concession stand with the help of Beta Club students for the second half of basketball and the Spring sports (baseball, boys & girls soccer, volleyball). Keep your eyes out for a volunteer sign up online in the near future! Outdoor Classroom Project LeaderWe are looking for someone to help run the Outdoor Classroom project. If you are a builder, contractor, landscape architect, or someone who is good at organizing these types of things, we NEED your help! We have a grant opportunity to get funding to help us build the Outdoor Classroom proposed by the science department at the first PTA meeting but need someone willing to lead this project. Below are a couple of concept pictures to see the idea. Please contact Jason Coleman, PTA president, at [email protected] if you are interested in leading this fabulous project!
Hassle-Free Fundraiser has begun:Students received an envelope for a hassle-free fundraiser from their homeroom teacher in the last week. We are trying a new fundraiser that does not require our students to sell more items to family and friends. Please make sure to look over the hassle-free fundraiser and return it to your student's homeroom teacher as soon as possible. Below is a pdf of the front of the envelope that went home for the hassle-free fundraiser.
General Membership Meeting Information...Our second general membership meeting of the year was held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November the 17th. A special thanks to the orchestra students who played a beautiful tribute to veterans and the students who led the meeting with an invocation and Pledge of Allegiance and all those who attended.
A full account of the meeting can be found in the Secretary's Corner on this website in the minutes for the November 17th General Membership Meeting. Board of Director's MeetingAfter a short recess was held, the newly elected Board of Directors convened the first BoD meeting of the 2015-2016 school year. Nominations and elections were held for the three (3) standing committees for the year. Each of the committees were issued tasks to be completed in preparation for the next BoD meeting to be held on Monday, September 28th at 4:00pm at WPMS.
We invite everyone to come to the meeting and find out what is going on with the WPM PTA this year. The goals of this meeting will be to form a plan of work and budget plan for the year to be adopted at our next general or special membership meeting. Only the members of the BoD will be able to make motions and vote but we all certainly want to hear what you may have to say about the matters being discussed. An agenda will be posted no later than September 25th for everyone to see. PLEASE RSVP below! This is so we know if we need to move the meeting to the cafeteria, Thanks! |
